    Exceptional

A great resort to relax after a long days drive, we drove from Orlando to Key West and stayed here one night on route. Would highly recommend the ground floor rooms with patio out onto the river, you also get a great sunset from these patio's. Food was great at this motel with a strong German theme. Rooms were large, clean and well air conditioned. All in all a great place if you want to relax or fish but little else around if staying longer than a couple of days.

Complementray coffee was welcomed in the morning but would be nice to have a kettle in the room as no other services were available outside of evening meal times.

    Superb

Excellent waterfront location, basic, but cosy rooms, relaxed atmosphere, nice staff, good food. would return any time!

One employee at the adjoint beach bar tried to cheat w the bill and was rude at that.

    Fabulous

We loved the ease of access, the waterfront, the Tiki bar(food and service and atmosphere and especially the live music) We found oyr room a bit shabby in appearance, but it was clean and everything- refrig. AC, shower- worked. We also enjoyed the food and service at the restaurant. Prices were very reasonable.

The rooms and pool area were shopworn, could be updated at least a bit.

    Good

The location was terrific and a wonderful views of our the waterscape of Key Largo Key. The Tikki bar was in a nice spot and the manatees were amazing. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I would recommend as long as you are not at all fussy and wanting a three start hotel.

The rooms were in need of updating, just basically "tired" but they smelled "clean" which was comforting.

Not very much, the web site makes it look so much better than it is. The room charge should be $50 for the lack of quality of linen, bathroom, the old moldy window air conditioner. The housekeeping staff was scarey.

    Good

    Very well located, nice staff.

The hotel has some needs for refurbishing. The bathrooms are not in the best conditions anymore, the paint is rusty and crackling. All in all the installations seem pretty deteriorated. Is nothing you could not live with but, not really the best Value for your money.

    Exceptional

Gilbert's is an old-style Keys hotel - nothing fancy, but relaxed and a fun place to stay. The tiki bar always had something going on, with plenty of tables to sit by the water and enjoy the breeze, and usually live music. The food was good and we loved the laid-back atmosphere. The beds aren't great and the window unit a/c was a bit annoying, but who spends a lot of time in the room anyway? We were tired enough by the end of the day to sleep just fine :) I initially thought I would be going alone, so I didn't want to be on the ground floor where people could walk by, but the ground floor rooms have nice patios with tables and a little more space for several people to hang out, right on the water. Second story has a nice view but not as much room outside.

Bed is just a mattress on plywood. Window unit a/c noisy.

    Very good

Loved the wildlife, the 1st stop on the keys, room very tired but the resort excellent for our 1 night stay en route to Key West

    Shower base paint peeling off....

    Very good

Gilbert's Resort really is a resort. They have a tiki-bar, restaurant, beach and palm trees. Don't forget the live music. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Right off the business-access on highway 1.

The rooms are (as they clearly mention) out dated. Paint coming off the bathroom walls, and a rusty fridge in the room. All was clean and in working order though, A/C working well. Don't expect luxury rooms. A bit pricey for what you get.

    Good

staff at tiki bar were friendly and happy to see us, view was beautiful.

mattress old and lumpy, on plywood no springs. no coffee pots in rooms and no place to get breakfast. i know the resort is old, but it could have been cleaner. i don't mind the old keys charm that is not a problem, i have been to the keys a dozen times, and i have stayed in older resorts. but for the money the view was beautiful, just would have enjoyed it better with a cup of coffee( they offer coffee in the office after 8am) but when you get up at 630??

    Superb

The motel rooms are right on the water, my husband could fish just feet from the back door of our room. It was fun. The restaurant was very good, and the people were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed.

The bed was old and a little hard.

    Good

The location was stunning. Where else could you sit so near dolphins feeding and a rare American crocodile swim to within 15 feet of your room door?

The whole place looks quite run down & 'tired' Whilst the room was clean, because the bathroom sink and tiles were damaged and the fridge was showing signs of rust, etc. it didn;t seem clean. The resort only provided a bath towel and a flannel - no hand towel, which seemed very odd. Complimentary coffee was available in the mornings, but only from 8am and it was a couple of miles to somewhere to get breakfast.
